Summary:

This march brings a set of demands that have to do with the continued non-fulfillment of basic rights that are enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (access to education, access to information, with accessibility on public transport, whether architectural or communication). the protesters, most of them in wheelchairs, held signs with messages such as “Accessibility is not charity”, “Independent life = citizenship”, “My life is not a pilot project”, as well as phrases with swear words, written in English, against the notions of punishment or the existence of the concept of normality in the face of an alleged abnormality of people with disabilities.


Aim:

Aiming to mark the European Day for Independent Living, people with disabilities take to the streets in three different cities of the country to show pride, but also to denounce the lack of information about the continuity of personal assistance pilot projects and criticize legislation on early retirement.


Main stakeholders:

Disabled people, beneficiaries of the funded projects, practitioners and leaders of some of the supported NGOs (AFID-Diferença, Associação Teia D’Impulsos, ARCIL — Associação para a Recuperação de Cidadãos Inadaptados da Lousã), and the secretary of State for Inclusion.
